Admin

[edit]

I am a Wikipedia:administrator since July 5, 2004. I first contributed to Wikipedia in April of 2001 (oldest edits lost in early software upgrades). My first edit with my username appears to be on April 26. I have been active on a number of online projects - active and passive (SETI@Home, Distributed Proofreaders, Mars crater labeling, Stardust@Home, Folding@Home on the Wikipedia team: Team page, etc.)

Current requests for reduction in protection level

[edit]
Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin on their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

  • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page, click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page," which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
  • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
  • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
  • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page, please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected, please use the section below.

Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Current requests for edits to a protected page

[edit]
Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

  • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
  • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
  • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
  • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
  • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.

"Israeli soldiers have summarily executed Palestinian civilians, often in front of their families." This is one citation that leads to another citation (why not list the original reference?) where it describes a single alleged incident that has been disputed. The original citation is careful to use the term 'alleged' and 'still under verification' and yet the wiki page does not say 'alleged' or 'accused of' - and goes on to add the word 'often', even though only one alleged incident is referenced. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 169.230.248.39 (talk) 02:19, 28 March 2025 (UTC)

From the source: The facts below show that Israel has killed Palestinian
civilians in Gaza indiscriminately and en masse . . . Israeli military forces have shot civilians in front of their families,
shot civilians waving white flags . . .

It should be The National Economic Stabilization and Recovery Act. The current one mention in this Wikipedia article is not the bill written by Harvey. I have multiple documents to support this. I would like to speak to someone about making this change so the information is accurate. In addition my efforts as his daughter concerning his book and bill could be added to the page as well. Requests for autopatrolled

Autopatrolled

[edit]

I have created 65 articles which are live, I understand the Wikipedia notability and other standards. I do create the articles of great quality. Hence request you to kindly grant the autopatrolled right, as the articles which I have been created are in pending for review state from long time, which demotivates me from creating new articles. Now a days, I'm mostly creating articles on Indian Villages. I have an experience of 11 years in Wikipedia, My articles are featured in DYK and ITN section of Wikipedia main page. Thanks in Advance. —Naveen N Kadalaveni (talk) 17:25, 4 March 2025 (UTC)

Not done. A lot of your articles are quite short and either contain unsourced text or rely heavily on primary sources. That might be because that's all you have to work with when it comes to Indian villages which is understandable. You also seem to have only recently returned to writing articles after a few months' break. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 21:50, 30 March 2025 (UTC)
Oh Okay! No issues, Anyways Thanks for your time and valuable feedback. --Naveen N Kadalaveni (talk) 09:32, 1 April 2025 (UTC)

Reason for requesting autopatrolled rights Can I have autopatrolled rights re granted, as they have now expired? Thank you! SDGB1217 (talk) 17:05, 22 March 2025 (UTC)

@Femke would you like to take this one as you granted the temporary rights? HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 22:15, 30 March 2025 (UTC)

I generally create articles similar to template-style articles, so I create a larger amount on elections and football tournaments. I always make sure to add categories and especially WikiProjects. I have not noticed reviewers needing to make changes to any of my articles within the last 6 months at least- from what I remember. The most recent deleted article I have was an uncontested PROD, which explained the issue to me clearly, and I will not make it again. Very few of my articles have had problems, with that being the only major one of the last fifty as I am aware. Any articles that I create that would not meet the WP:GNG "presumed" guideline, I try to have at least ten sources before considering publishing the article. Yoblyblob (Talk) :) 20:58, 31 March 2025 (UTC)

Not done, I'm not seeing a lot of engagement with the notability criteria in terms of the article creation (which is what the spirit of the criteria requires). Most of your creations are in the category of auto-notable stubs (which is not a bad thing, however, it typically do not need that much work from reviewers to approve and do not show a ton of involvement in terms of content policies or complex application of the notability criteria). Sohom (talk) 05:59, 2 April 2025 (UTC)
I've been an editor on the English Wikipedia since 2017 and have created over 100 articles. Being autopatrolled will reduce the backlog on articles needing reviews. Thanks for the consideration. SuperSwift (talk) 19:10, 2 April 2025 (UTC)

I'm currently working on some general maintenance of articles related to the theory of general relativity and would like some extra tools for automatic syntax fixing, etc. Some articles like this one could use some semi-automated tender love and care. A recent rewrite I did here might improve with some finishing touches too. ScienceDawns (talk) 08:44, 18 March 2025 (UTC)

I feel like I've improved as an editor since my rights were revoked in July 2024 (due to a long series of impulsive mistakes I made and not checking my work hard enough), and since I last tried to apply in November 2024. I've tried slowing down on the editing, especially with Rater, as Pppery pointed out.

Anyway, the main reason why I wanted to reapply for AWB is because cleaning up Category:Pages using infobox Russian inhabited locality with unknown parameters has been rather tedious; I recently found a bunch of unnecessary parameters (most notably, "date") that I believe can be removed more efficiently if I had access to the application. However, I will try to remove parameters (or use AWB in general) as a last resort (like if the params are truly redundant), and instead try to fix them if possible. OpalYosutebito (talk) 02:29, 21 March 2025 (UTC)

I also found Category:Pages using infobox university with the image name parameter, which should be an easy fix, as it mostly requires changing one parameter to another - OpalYosutebito (talk) 10:15, 26 March 2025 (UTC)

Requests for new page reviewer

New page reviewer

[edit]

I am reapplying for the new page reviewer role after my initial request was declined because now I realize I had applied prematurely. Since then, I have gained some experience, refined my understanding of Wikipedia’s policies, and have been actively contributing to the Articles for Creation (AfC) review process. This has not only strengthened my ability to assess new articles but has also given me useful experience in engaging constructively with editors.

I am well-versed with Wikipedia’s guidelines, particularly regarding notability, verifiability, and neutrality. My strength is my ability to remain unbiased while reviewing, and I always strive to improve by learning from my mistakes. Though my registered account is only a few months old, I have been editing Wikipedia for a long time, which has given me substantial familiarity with its norms and regulations.

I have been enjoying reviewing AfC drafts, and this experience has encouraged me to take on a more active role in maintaining Wikipedia’s quality. I now feel myself confident that I can handle this responsibility and would greatly appreciate the opportunity to contribute as a new page reviewer.

Thank you for your time and consideration. Best regards, Rahmatula786 (talk) 17:12, 21 February 2025 (UTC)

No Sir, Before creating this account, I used to edit Wikipedia anonymously and made various contributions. However, after realizing the benefits of having a registered account, I created this one and have since been actively editing and contributing regularly. Rahmatula786 (talk) 09:33, 28 February 2025 (UTC)

I would like to request NPR rights to contribute more effectively to this area and help reduce the backlog at NPP. I have created 18 articles and have been actively involved in patrolling new pages, tagging non-notable and promotional content for CSD and AfD. Many of the articles I have nominated for CSD or AfD have been deleted, which I believe reflects my understanding of Wikipedia's notability and content policies. With NPR rights, I will be able to continue this work more efficiently. I am familiar with relevant guidelines and policies and would appreciate the opportunity to help out in this area. Thanks for your time and consideration! Junbeesh (talk) 07:43, 8 March 2025 (UTC)

I've been an editor for a while and have experience in article creation (mainly on the shorter side for more niche areas with fewer sources) and have a few DYKs under my belt. Think my knowledge of policy demonstrated through this makes me a good fit for these permissions. Upjav (talk) 20:33, 11 March 2025 (UTC)

As a further note, I'd like to review new pages. Upjav (talk) 02:17, 18 March 2025 (UTC)

I wish to apply for New Page Reviewer permissions to deal with the large backlog of unreviewed pages. I have participated in many AfD discussions, which proves my understanding of Wikipedia's content policies and notability guidelines. JustARandomEditor123 (talk) 10:48, 15 March 2025 (UTC)

I am requesting this permission because I want to volunteer in reducing the NPP backlog and ensuring that new pages are encyclopedic and properly cited. I believe that I am qualified to be a new page reviewer because I have created many new articles that are encyclopedic and adequately sourced, nominated new pages for speedy deletion when appropriate and have participated in the AfD process. Page mover

[edit]

I'm an experienced editor with years of history on Wikipedia and I've recently been getting more into page moving (mostly to fix disambiguation-related issues). The issue is that increasingly I see that a redirect already exists at the intended destination, so it would be very helpful for me to have the page mover permission so I can resolve these issues efficiently. I have moved over 500 pages so far and have initiated several requested moves as well. I don't intend to engage in any controversial moves and if any of mine are contested I'll immediately revert and go to RM.

I've been editing for a long time and understand Wikipedia's policies and goals. I especially like to help out at pages which have a lot of enthusiastic edits by knowledgeable people who might not understand Wikipedia's format and goals, making them perfect candidates for pending changes protection.

I think pending changes reviewer rights would be the perfect way to help separate the wheat from the chaff and help our newest editors participate and make a difference while maintaining our high standards. Bruhpedia (talk) 20:52, 26 March 2025 (UTC)

I need the Pending changes right, I patrol through serval articles on Wikipedia Atimes I’m experienced, without much been said, I want to support. Chippla360 (talk) 18:29, 2 April 2025 (UTC)

I have read the WP:PCCRITERIA and I believe that I meet them. I sometimes see pending edits waiting for approval on articles, and I believe that I could do this job myself. wojtekpolska1013 [talk page] 09:35, 3 April 2025 (UTC)

Requests for rollback

Rollback

[edit]

I'm requesting rollback rights to speed up my fight against vandalism. I have about 1,000 edits involving reverting vandalism. I'm also interested in tools such as AntiVandal. TheM1sty (talk) 17:49, 17 March 2025 (UTC)

I have taken up patrolling recent changes and clear vandalism prevension / sourceless BLP-edits in en-wiki too. I have enough experience of the tool through fi-wiki, where I am a rollbacker, pending changes reviewer and ”page stabilzer” (I think the group closest to it here was called editor?). I know I have under 200 edits too now, but my interest at the time here is vandalism prevention which is hard and takes multiple edits (causes spam in recent changes) without rollback-tool. I would ask for sysops to look at my well trusted global status and experience. Thank you! Osmo Lundell (talk) 20:33, 21 March 2025 (UTC)

@Osmo Lundell: Twinkle's red "vandalism" button should revert consecutive edits by the same user in the same way that rollback does. It appears when you view the diff (noting that you have Twinkle enabled). Have you tried doing that? – JensonSL (SilverLocust) 04:56, 25 March 2025 (UTC)
Hey! Thanks for metting me know, I thought that using that button would need the rollback user group. Good to know if it works just like that for everyone! I would still leave my request pending, because rollback is still useful from the recent changes view etc. --Osmo Lundell hey 07:34, 25 March 2025 (UTC)

I would like rollbacker rights to help remove vandalism, and to try out AV. I have around 500 edits in mainspace and have patrolled RC since late February. Toast1454TC 14:07, 28 March 2025 (UTC)

Hi, I am requesting rollback rights to help combat vandalism and disruptive edits more effectively. I have been patrolling recent changes for the past 30 days, focusing on identifying and reverting vandalism, test edits, and other unconstructive changes. I am familiar with Wikipedia’s policies, including WP:VANDALISM, WP:BLP, and WP:NPOV.

I really wanted to improve Wikipedia by my small contribution. I understand the importance of using rollback responsibly. This permission would allow me to respond more efficiently to inappropriate edits.

I want to also say that I made some silly mistakes in the starting of my patrolling. However, I learnt from them and make sure that they won't happen again. Such as reverting edits that are already reverted, that mistakes you can see on my past contributions.

Thank you for considering my request. Please let me know if any additional information is needed. VortexPhantom Talk 07:35, 29 March 2025 (UTC)

I am requesting rollback rights to improve my patrolling workflow

Currently, I use Ultraviolet with pseudo-rollback. I want to try new software like AV and/or HUGGLE, to see what fits me best. I have been RCP patrolling for more than a month and currently I am in the CVUA, which is improving my knowledge and helps me educate others. With rollback, I will be able to counter vandalism, BLP, edit test and other unconstructive edits with splendor speed, without affecting my accuracy. twisted. Hello Twistedmath, thanks for patrolling recent changes! Under the condition that you don't let this stop you from finishing your CVUA course in case there's still something left to be done there (at the bottom of the page perhaps?) or in case ToadetteEdit has concerns or further questions, I'll add the rollback permission already. ~ ToBeFree (talk) 01:05, 3 April 2025 (UTC)

I am requesting rollback rights to efficiently combat vandalism, particularly from anonymous IP editors who have been repeatedly disrupting multiple pages. Their edits often include unconstructive changes, misinformation, and page blanking, requiring frequent reversion. Having rollback rights would allow me to quickly and accurately revert these edits, ensuring the integrity of Wikipedia content. Vineyard93 (talk) 02:26, 1 April 2025 (UTC)

(Non-administrator comment) Hello, Vineyard93. I don't see anything when you're undoing your edits. You have been warned on the user talk page at least with a level 3 warning and blanking the user talk page. What is used for rollback? Best regards, –HirowoWiki (📝) 23:50, 1 April 2025 (UTC)

I would like to request rollback rights to assist in combating vandalism and maintaining Wikipedia's content quality.
I understand Wikipedia's rollback policy and will use the tool responsibly, applying it only for clear cases of vandalism and constructive edits. Vineyard93 (talk) 22:23, 2 April 2025 (UTC)
(Non-administrator comment) Do you have any tools such as Twinkle or Ultraviolet to help fight vandalism? –HirowoWiki (📝) 22:28, 2 April 2025 (UTC)
UPDATED. I'm using a mobile browser, not desktop mode, which is why I can't see the undo option on mobile—only on desktop mode. So, I'm manually reverting all vandalism edits. Vineyard93 (talk) 02:15, 3 April 2025 (UTC)
Hello Vineyard93, you have never used the "undo" link yet and currently seem to lack the required experience with patrolling recent changes. ~ ToBeFree (talk) 01:00, 3 April 2025 (UTC)

"Do you want to take a survey?"

    [edit]

On Feb. 12, 2005, I did a random pages survey. Out of 100 random pages, only 1 was a U.S. town. That's progress. Three towns in the UK, 1 in Spain and 1 in Portugal also turned up. Overall biographies were the largest category at 22%, followed by geography with 15% total. Then Lists at 7%, Disambiguation pages at 6%.

On Feb. 24, 2006, I repeated the 100 random page survey, this time getting 5 U.S. towns. Overall, geography had 26%, biography 21%, fiction 9%, music 4%, colleges 4%, lists 3% and disambigs 4%. Clearly geography and biography are our largest areas. Music, science and business scored less than I expected. Non-individual History was hardly discernable.

Even by Feb. 2005, 100 out of almost 500,000 was not statistically significant but was as much as I had patience for.

Up to Dec 16, 2003, all the edits at these anonymous id's were mine (59 edits):

More recently 1,250 or so edits on 75.41.110.200 are apparently all mine. Apparently my new ID is 75.41.109.190. There are undoubtedly many others as the earliest history of many articles was not preserved by the software.
